Brian McBride will not return as general manager of the United States men’s national team, according to a report from ESPN. McBride, who earned 95 international caps and scored 30 goals for the USMNT, was hired as the program’s GM in 2020.
With McBride exiting, U.S. Soccer sporting director Earnie Stewart will oversee Gregg Berhalter’s ongoing review. Berhatler, who was hired to be the USMNT’s head coach in 2018, recently revealed that he kicked his now-wife outside of a bar 31 years ago after the parents of star midfielder Gio Reyna reported the information to U.S. Soccer.
Berhalter’s contract with the USMNT expired at the end of 2022.

Anthony Hudson, one of Berhalter’s assistant coaches at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, will coach the United States men’s national team on an interim basis, starting with a pair of Los Angeles friendlies against Serbia on Wednesday and the Netherlands on Jan. 28.
