Sabir Shah Afridi of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa won the first judo gold medal for KP in the history of National Games by winning the final bout against Shahan Ali of Army in 34th National Games.
In the ongoing 34th National Games in Quetta, Pakistan Army has been leading in Men’s Judo, but KPK’s Sabir Shah Afridi prevented this lead from turning into a clean sweep.
Saber defeated Wapda in the first bout, Balochistan in the second and Judoka of Police in the third, after which he faced Army’s Shahan in the final.
He won the bout within ten seconds to win the gold medal for KP.
For the first time in the history of the National Games, KP bagged the gold medal in Judo. In other Judo events, Army bagged four more gold medals, WAPDA bagged three more gold medals. Army’s Hamza Ashiq won the gold medal in the men’s -50 kg event.
– In 73 kg category Sadaqat Ali of Army won gold, Tahir of HEC won silver medal, Muhammad Asif of Army won gold medal in 81 kg category.
In open category, Shah Hussain Shah won gold medal for Pakistan Army.
Fawzia Yasir of WAPDA won the gold medal in women’s open category. WAPDA’s Maryam 57, Humira 52 and Kausar Iqbal won gold medals in 40 kg category. In judo, Army has so far won 9 gold medals, WAPDA three while HEC and KP have won one gold medal each.
