During the ongoing African Union annual summit in Ethiopia, Israel’s senior diplomat was kicked out of the meeting.
In a video circulating online, African summit security officials can be seen escorting an Israeli diplomat out of the summit’s opening ceremony.
Israeli officials have responded by saying that the expulsion of Israel’s senior diplomat, Deputy Director for Africa, Ambassador Sharon Bar-Lee, despite having the badge of an accredited observer for the African Summit, will be viewed strictly.
Officials said that canceling the status of an Israeli observer is not mentioned anywhere in the organization’s law.
On the other hand, the spokesperson of the African Summit and the Chairman of the African Union, Eba Kalundo, said that the Israeli diplomat was not the designated ambassador of Israel to Ethiopia, so she was expelled from the summit.
