Quetta: Six months have passed since the flood in Balochistan, but the Balochistan government could not come up with a comprehensive plan for the rehabilitation of the flood victims, due to which the victims are waiting for government assistance.
Monsoon rains and flash floods caused widespread destruction in Balochistan during June to August last year.
A total of 346,000 houses were affected in the province, in which 250,000 houses were completely destroyed while more than 96,000 houses were partially damaged.
The cost estimate for the repair of flood affected houses is said to be around 200 billion rupees. Two months have passed since the estimate was made by the provincial government, but the government has not been able to give a clear road map for the rehabilitation of the victims. The main reason is the financial crisis of the provincial government.
On the other hand, the Balochistan government did not receive money from the federal government for the flood victims, while the province is suffering from severe financial crisis due to the non-delivery of the money received by the province under the NFC award.
