The Pentagon has confirmed that a US fighter jet shot down a Chinese spy balloon.
The Pentagon says the spy balloon is an unacceptable violation of US airspace by China, after the balloon was shot down off the coast of South Carolina.
The US President congratulated the US military for shooting down the Chinese spy balloon, while the US Defense Secretary said that the action was deliberate and in accordance with the law.
He said the action demonstrates that President Biden and his national security team will always put the safety and security of the American people first, responding effectively to China’s unacceptable violation of our sovereignty.
It should be noted that on Friday, China admitted ownership of the balloon, saying it was a weather observation balloon that had strayed from its course. The unintended entry of the balloon into US airspace and the situation is regretted.
