International award-winning Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi has been released on bail after announcing a hunger strike against his continued detention.

According to a foreign news agency, the lawyer of the filmmaker Yusuf Molai has confirmed the release of Jafar Panahi on bail.

On the other hand, Tahira Saeedi, wife of filmmaker Jafar Panahi, shared a picture from her Instagram account in which she is seen traveling in a car with her husband.

In the caption of the photo, he wrote that on the third day of the hunger strike, Jafar Panahi has been temporarily released after the efforts of lawyers, family and people related to cinema.

A few days ago, Jafar Panahi, one of Iran’s most influential filmmakers, announced on his wife’s social media account that he would start a hunger strike in a Tehran prison against his continued detention.

He was accused of spreading anti-government propaganda and inciting protesters during the 2009 post-election unrest.

The Iranian filmmaker was arrested on July 11, 2022 in front of a prison in Tehran and told that he will have to serve a 6-year prison sentence handed down by a Tehran court in 2011.

Cannes Film Festival award winner Jafarpanahi has directed films like ‘The White Balloon’, ‘The Circle’ and ‘No Bears’.
