The Minister of Sports of Poland expressed the fear of a boycott of the Paris Olympics by 40 countries.

According to the BBC, Poland’s Minister of Sports and Tourism, Kamil Bortniczuk, has said that 40 countries may boycott the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced last week that it would find a way to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to compete in Paris as neutral athletes by removing their national identities.

The committee had further said that no player should be barred from participating in the competitions just because of his passport.

However, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia jointly rejected the IOC’s decision, while Ukraine also threatened to boycott the Games over the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in the Paris Olympics.

These countries said that the athletes of Russia and Belarus should be prevented from participating in all international sports until the end of the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Polish Minister of Sports and Tourism Kamil says that before the meeting of the International Olympic Committee on February 10, an alliance of 40 countries including Great Britain, America and Canada can be formed to boycott this decision of the IOC.

He said that if this 40-nation alliance boycotted the Olympics, the next year’s games would become meaningless.

On the other hand, on the fear of boycott of the Olympics, the International Olympic Committee has said that the boycott is a violation of the Olympics agreement, history shows that the boycott in the past did not achieve any political goals and only the athletes suffered.
