A video has been repeatedly posted on various social media platforms with claims that the video was recorded on January 30 when a suicide blast took place in a mosque in Peshawar, killing more than 100 people.
This claim is completely false.
Claim
On January 31, 2023, a Twitter user posted a video showing a building on fire.
The user wrote in his tweet that “It is sad to see that more than 50 people were killed in a suicide bomb blast in a mosque in Peshawar.”
As of writing this article, the video has been viewed more than 3,000 times.
Another Twitter user shared the same video with the caption, “It’s scary, look at the fire from today’s Peshawar blast.”
This video has been viewed more than 30 thousand times.
Reality
According to Reverse Image and Geo Television’s archive department records, the footage is from October 2021, when a boiler exploded in a beverage factory on Multan Road in Lahore.
Geofactcheck used the search engine Yandex to find the original footage of the blast in Lahore.
GeoFactCheck then further verified the video from Geo Television’s archives, revealing that the footage was recorded in October 2021 and not on January 30, 2023, when terrorists attacked a mosque in Peshawar.
