Since the start of unloading of soybeans from ships at Karachi port, during the last 15 days, about one and a half lakh tons of soybeans came out of the port from three cargoes.
Sources say that one and a half lakh tonnes of soybeans are still available on the berths of the port adjacent to Kemari. The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency had objected to soybean handling without SOP two years ago.
According to sources, the International Center of Biological Sciences has identified soybean dust as a possible cause of respiratory problems.
The report said that HEJ and Karachi University had advised extreme caution in unloading hundred yabins from ships.
