ISLAMABAD: The National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) has submitted its preliminary investigation report to the Power Division on the issue of power breakdown in the country on January 23.
According to NTDC’s preliminary report, there was a frequency fluctuation on the morning of January 23, which caused tripping of 500 kV transmission lines.
The report states that due to tripping, the system of NTDC and K Electric went down due to which 11 thousand 356 megawatts of electricity was out of the system.
According to the NTDC report, the main fault occurred in the transmission lines. Before the breakdown, the system frequency was 50 MHz, which suddenly increased to 57 MHz. The sudden increase in frequency caused load and voltage imbalance on the system. .
The report further states that tripping occurred several times in Tarbela, Mangla and Warsak, the process of power restoration from Tarbela, Mangla and Warsak was started immediately and Mangla system was scrutinized for electricity at 5 pm.
