UNESCO named the International Education Day after Afghan girls and women -HP NEWS

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has named Afghan Girls and Women as the International Education Day to be celebrated on January 24.

Today, the International Day of Education was celebrated under the United Nations, on this occasion the call for the immediate restoration of the basic right of education to Afghan women was renewed in a ceremony held at the United Nations headquarters.

UNESCO Director General Andrey Azoulay says that currently 80 percent of Afghan girls of school age are deprived of education.

The statement by UNESCO said that no country in the world can stop women and girls from getting education, education is a universal human right that should be respected.

UNESCO has said that the international community has a responsibility to ensure the restoration of the rights of Afghan girls and women.

On the other hand, the Secretary General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, has called on the Taliban to withdraw the provocative restrictions on secondary and higher education for girls and women.

It should be noted that last month, the Taliban government in Afghanistan banned women’s higher education and women’s work in welfare organizations.
