The Accountability Court of Islamabad also sent back the Park Lane reference against former President Asif Ali Zardari to NAB after amending the NAB Amendment Act.
Judge Nasir Javed Rana of Accountability Court Islamabad, while conducting the hearing, said that they cannot hear the reference now that the jurisdiction has expired.
The court held a hearing on the request to terminate the hearing against former President Asif Ali Zardari and other accused on the Park Lane Reference Amendment Act 2022 due to the end of judicial jurisdiction.
Petitioner’s counsel Farooq H. Naik appeared before the court and submitted that the Parkland reference does not come under the jurisdiction of the accountability court after the amendment act.
He presented the decision of Islamabad High Court as a judicial precedent.
NAB Prosecutor Usman Masood, opposing the plea of acquittal, said that there was a joint venture between the National Bank and a private bank (Summit Bank) under which a loan of 1.5 billion was taken which was later increased to 2.8 billion. Determine jurisdiction in this case.
After hearing the arguments, the court returned the reference to NAB, ruling that the jurisdiction had expired.
